Visitor Services
The bureau provides the full range of expected visitor center services including paper maps in multiple formats and detail levels, brochures for every Logan County attraction and many regional destinations, walking-tour guides with numbered stops and historical commentary, restaurant and lodging recommendations, and personal advice tailored to each traveler's situation. The map and brochure collection is comprehensive, with shelves stocked with materials from across central Illinois, the Illinois Route 66 corridor, and statewide Illinois tourism resources.
Staff members include both paid employees and volunteer community members whose combined knowledge covers every aspect of Lincoln and Logan County tourism. They can recommend specific restaurants for particular dining occasions, suggest optimal photography times at various attractions, advise on parking and accessibility at specific sites, and provide insider tips that genuinely improve the visitor experience. Many travelers describe their interactions with bureau staff as among the most rewarding personal exchanges of their entire Mother Road journey.
Group tours, school visits, and special-needs accommodations can be arranged with advance notice, typically two to four weeks for the most ambitious programming. The bureau maintains relationships with all major Lincoln attractions and can coordinate behind-the-scenes tours, special access arrangements, and themed itineraries for groups with specific interests including Lincoln scholarship, Route 66 history, aviation, and Civil War studies. These coordinated experiences provide depth rarely available to walk-in visitors.
