When you think about “paradise” what is the first thing that comes to mind? Palm trees, the ocean and sandy white beaches? You may be right, but paradise can be defined in many different ways and when you’re in Catalina Island – the Glenmore Plaza is the place that redefined my idea of paradise.

Located in the heart of Catalina Island, Avalon, the Glenmore Plaza is not glamorous, high-tech, new or improved. Instead, the beauty of the Glenmore Plaza is it’s old-fashioned charm featuring oak wood walls and cozy couches when entering the lobby. The Glenmore Plaza is the second oldest (and still operating) hotel in California. This beach side hotel doesn’t have elevators, central air conditioning or flat screen TVs (as most luxury hotels do) however, this is exactly the reason I enjoyed my stay.

The rooms were small, but the furniture was an antique white wicker giving it a Victorian beach cottage feel. The best part was seeing the same staff everyday and building a relationship with them. Most hotels are cold and give that “in and out” feeling. However, the staff at the Glenmore Plaza made each and every one of their guest’s experiences memorable, personable and fun.  The hotel features ocean view suites, deluxe room accomodations, complimentary continental breakfast, vacation packages, cable TV and much more.

The Glenmore Plaza is location at 120 Sumner Avenue, Avalon, CA 90704. For reservations, please call: 310-510-0017 or visit http://www.glenmoreplaza.com.
