The Views from Upper Floors
The Hilton Springfield's height advantage over every other building in the city means upper-floor rooms enjoy views unavailable anywhere else. Rooms facing west look directly at the Illinois State Capitol three blocks away — the building's distinctive copper-roofed dome dominates the view, particularly at sunrise when it lights up against the sky. Rooms facing south overlook the Lincoln Home neighborhood, the dome of the Old State Capitol, and the Sangamon County courthouse. Rooms facing east and north look across the Sangamon River valley and the surrounding Illinois prairie, with the horizon visible 20 miles away on clear days.
Request a high floor (above 20) at booking and specify a directional preference — the view differences are significant. The hotel's website doesn't allow specific room selection but the front desk will accommodate requests when possible. Higher floor rooms cost $20 to $40 more per night than equivalent lower-floor rooms; for Route 66 travelers who care about the visual experience, the upgrade is worth it.
The hotel's 30th-floor rotating restaurant Lookout was decommissioned in 2015 — once a Springfield landmark, it stopped rotating decades ago and was eventually closed. The space is now used for private events and special hotel functions. Hotel guests can sometimes arrange private access for photographs through the front desk, though it isn't routinely open to the public. The same view is available from upper-floor guest rooms for the cost of a room booking.
