Location and Walking Tour Access
From the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel's front entrance on East Adams Street, every major Lincoln site in downtown Springfield is within a 10-minute walk. Step out the door and head west on Adams: in two blocks you'll reach the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices, where Lincoln practiced law from 1843 to 1852. One block further is the Old State Capitol, where Lincoln gave the House Divided speech. Three blocks west is the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum complex.
Head south from the hotel instead and within five blocks you reach the Lincoln Home National Historic Site at 8th and Jackson — the only home Lincoln ever owned. The four-block restored historic neighborhood surrounding the home is itself a beautiful walking experience. The Great Western Depot, where Lincoln gave his February 1861 farewell address to Springfield before leaving for Washington, is two blocks east of the hotel.
For the only major Lincoln site that requires a car or trolley, the Lincoln Tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetery is 1.5 miles north of downtown — a 5-minute drive. The hotel concierge can arrange transportation or rides via the Springfield Mass Transit District. Some travelers also walk it, particularly in mild weather; the route follows quiet residential streets and takes about 30 minutes each way.
