Davenport, Iowa has a lot going for it. Known as one of the Quad Cities, a region of five smaller cities that make up one large metro area, it’s packed with a lot more activities, and things to do than it’s size might suggest.

Freight House Farmers Market
It’s always a good rule of thumb to follow that if there is a popular farmer’s market in a city or town you’re visiting, you should go. The same is true for the Freight House Farmers Market. With a great selection of vendors, homemade goods, and food trucks, you can get your fill here.
Lindsay Park
Did you know that Davenport is home to over 50 parks? That’s a lot of green space. When you’re in Davenport spent some time in a few of them. One of our favorites is Lindsay Park. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to a playground, fields, and a sculpture garden.
Chocolate Manor
Got a sweet tooth? Look no further than Davenport’s Chocolate Manor. This family owned and operated business hand makes all of its many chocolates in house. You can get your fill eating, or you can take one of their front and back of the house tours, and maybe even try your hand at making some chocolate too.
The Village
East Davenport, known as The Village among locals, has a flavor and flair of its own. You should spend some time here, especially wandering around the historic district visiting some of the old buildings or watching one of the many events they have here year round.
Vander Veer Botanical Park
Another one of Davenport’s famous parks is the Vander Veer Botanical Park; This is a 33-acre botanical garden that is thought to be one of the first ever West of the Mississippi River. Its rose garden has gotten national recognition, and it also has a beautiful conservatory to explore.
Getting There
Davenport is conveniently located on Interstate 80, a highway that runs from Chicago to Sacramento, California, so it’s a perfect road trip destination.
For shorter visits and day trips, Davenport is easy to get to- It’s three hours (or less) from Chicago, Madison, Hannibal, and Des Moines.
