Nestled in the heart of Valley Village (north of Ventura on Burbank near Whitsett) is a new diary only restaurant called Café Souffle.
Serving a wide variety of foods from breakfast items as a croissant sandwich or a Greek omelet to Jerusalem bagels spread with mozzarella, tomato and pesto or with tuna to special ciabatta sandwiches as Portobello and goat cheese or avocado and salmon or avocado and feta. These run from $9-14.
Besides regular coffee and a variety of sodas and cold drinks, they offer milk and fruit shakes, latte and cappuccinos, espresso, chocolate and juices.
On the main menu you’ll find exotic wraps from $10.95-$13.95, generous salads including a special sweet potato salad, salmon, hot mushroom salad, and beet salads or a Sweet Dreams salad worthy of a dessert made from carmelized pecans, dried cranberries, sweet pears, orange slices tossed in a mixed green salad with orange balsamic vinaigrette and shredded feta cheese running from $13.99-$14.99.
Enough for a meal themselves appetizers include avocado rolls – crispy fried egg rolls stuffed with avocado and served with sweet sauce, macaroni and cheese balls – a mix of macaroni and cheese fried until crispy and served with a hot mushroom sauce, stuffed Portobello, smoked salmon plate, cheese fondue, stuffed eggplant, seared ahi tuna or ceviche. These run from $9.99 to 19.99 (the latter being for the cheese fondue.)
A variety of pizzas as Napoli, Milan, Torino, and Sicilia, and pastas as verona – mozzarella, eggplant, peppers and pizza sauce; ziva – rolled stuffed puff pastry served with tomato puree, hardboiled eggs, and pickles and stuffed with mozzarella, feta and green olives, and pizza sauce; and pocaccia which is baked to order and served with a house green salad.
In addition, they also offer seafood as Creamy Tilapia, Salmon teriyaki, Ahi Tuna, Grilled Trout, and Seared Ahi Tuna. These range from $14.99 to $21.99
Yummy desserts include things like chocolate souffle, chocolate fondue, cheesecake, or banana rolls served with ice cream and hot chocolate syrup. These run from $9.95 to $19.95 for the fondue.
Because it is strictly kosher, there is no meat product served and it is only diary and parve (neither milk or meat.) They close early on Fridays for the Sabbath, but open on Saturday evening after sundown.
While the food is absolutely great, the service is slow. At best on a crowded Saturday night, they only had one waitress and we had to wait almost an hour to be served.
