Plan Your Visit
Book Early
Amarillo has the best hotel selection on the Texas stretch. Book ahead for the June Big Texan celebration — rooms fill fast.
Drive the Route
The full Texas stretch (186 miles) can be driven in about 3 hours without stops, but plan a full day with Cadillac Ranch, Big Texan, and Midpoint Cafe.
Beat the Heat
Summer temperatures in the Texas Panhandle regularly exceed 100°F with little shade. Spring and fall events are more comfortable.
Peak Season
March (Shamrock) and June (Big Texan) are the busiest event weekends. The September Pie Fest in Adrian is a smaller, more intimate gathering.
