In my travel writing adventures, I come across unique and fun discoveries that I love to share with other people. If you are looking for a unique experience in California, this is a secret place that few people know about. I actually discovered it by chance, while doing some wine tasting at a nearby winery. When I woke up that morning, I didn’t ever imagine that one of my life long dreams would come true. It’s in Paso Robles, which is conveniently located halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. There is a wild animal preserve where displaced, abused animals find a home with a purpose called Zoo To You. I actually had the chance to visit, up close and personal, a tiger, bear, leopard, bald eagle, kangaroo, monkeys and many other critters in a much more personal environment than a zoo. As an avid animal lover, all of my life, I have longed to see these beautiful animals up close, and was actually able to pet them and interact with them! Along with a reserve that is open to the public, they also offer a wildlife on wheels program that brings animals to people, schools, events, etc. This is what animal rescue should be about. It was truly one of the most remarkable experiences of my life. I was so happy and grateful for this experience, it moved me to tears. This is a great place to stop while you are traveling or simply a side trip from wine tasting. Enjoy!
