With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s always special to be able to spend some quality time with your loved one. However, with jobs, and families and kids, and general life often getting in the way it can be hard, especially if you don’t have much extra money to spend.

But, just because you don’t have a lot of time or budget, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a day out with your loved one. As you’re planning your Valentine’s Day experience over the next few weeks, consider some of these options as off the beaten path ways of enjoying the day, without busting the budget.

Head Out to the Beach

A carefully planned picnic can always feel very romantic and it is an inexpensive way to not only spend time together but enjoy beautiful scenery. Now, for the view part, head to the beach.

Clearwater Beach, just outside Tampa Bay is not just one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Florida, with it’s miles of white sand, it also offers absolutely spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico.

Or for a more exotic trip, try taking a ferry ride to Caladesi Island State Park by Dundein, Florida. A natural barrier island, it has 3 miles of pristine beaches, walking trails and cooking sites, a beautiful way to enjoy the day.

Enjoy a Riverboat Cruise

There has to be something romantic about a riverboat cruise, harkening back to the days of Mark Twain. Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to enjoy it as many riverboats offer couples specials.

Running out of New Orleans, the Creole Queen is offering a special buffet dinner with a night of music and dancing. For those who are looking to enjoy a delicious meal and wonderful views down the Mississippi, it’s a great option.

Further up the Mississippi, spend the night after wandering Beale Street on the Memphis Riverboat. This two hour cruise offers a band, fine food and a fantastic night out with your loved one.
