Stroud
Where Pixar found inspiration
Stroud is home to the legendary Rock Cafe, open since 1939 and famous as the inspiration for Flo's V8 Cafe in Pixar's Cars. Owner Dawn Welch's story captivated the filmmakers, and the rebuilt cafe remains a beloved Route 66 pilgrimage.
The original Rock Cafe was built from locally quarried sandstone and survived decades of Route 66 travelers before a devastating fire in 2008. Dawn Welch rebuilt the cafe with the same stone, and Pixar helped with the restoration. Today the walls are covered with Cars memorabilia, and the food is classic American diner fare done right.
